Saw this handsome gent, and his Harley-riding owner, at a rest stop on Highway 98 outside of Carrabelle, FL. Just goes to show you that opposites do, indeed, attract.

River Fishing and Lazy Days – The Unknown Florida
For many people, “Florida” conjures up a certain image, often comprised of Art Deco buildings in Miami and retired folks from the Northeast. I know that Florida; I lived in or near Miami Beach for most of my twenties. But that’s not the Florida where I was raised, and it’s not the Florida I holdContinue reading “River Fishing and Lazy Days – The Unknown Florida”
When the Canadians came to the Lowcountry
One of the things I enjoyed most about living in the Pacific Northwest, was proximity to Canada. I’ve visited the country many times, travelling often to Vancouver. I’ve also cross-country skied (and eaten) my way through Whistler, British Columbia. But it was during a 2006 car trip when I, toured the Canadian Rockies; ran alongContinue reading “When the Canadians came to the Lowcountry”
Loveliness in an All-American Home
Over the weekend, I had a wonderful opportunity to shoot some photographs in the home of a friend, an amazing house in Daniel Island, South Carolina, just outside of Charleston. Designed in the Charleston “single-style” this amazing place looks like the fantasy all-American house, without the pretense. Without any staging, or styling, or application ofContinue reading “Loveliness in an All-American Home”
Strolling Through Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park
For many, a 90 degree afternoon can seem too hot for a Sunday afternoon walk in Florida. And because we’d had little time to chat during her visit to seeContinue reading “Strolling Through Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park”
Shucked and served in a blink…
Met up with my Mom and Dad today for lunch at the Shell Oyster Bar. The Shell, a Tallahassee, Florida institution, is beloved by a wide variety of folks – everyone from lobbyists to college students, to farmers, pile in for oysters (fresh out of Apalachicola… Bay) and some of the best fried seafood you’ll ever eat.Continue reading “Shucked and served in a blink…”
A Red Hills Afternoon
Recently, after a long time away, I relocated back to the South, to Tallahassee, Florida, where I was born and raised. One thing I’ve learned since coming home is that eventually, you stop seeing the things that made you want to leave and start seeing things that make you want to stay. The Red HillsContinue reading “A Red Hills Afternoon”
Equestrian Portrait – Red Hills Horse Trials
These portraits were taken of rider Nicolette Merle-Smith and horse Cappuccino Ice shortly after they won Preliminary Rider in the Intermediate show jumping portion of the Red Hills International Horse Trials in Tallahassee, Florida on March 10, 2013. Nicolette is a wonderful rider and Cappuccino Ice was arguably my favorite horse in the competition, soContinue reading “Equestrian Portrait – Red Hills Horse Trials”
My Uncle’s Farm
Was thinking today about my Uncle’s farm, and the roads that wind throughout it, and how you can wander and see barns and ponds, old trucks, old dogs, herons, and wide open fields. It will always be a special place.
